The dilemna is not that it wants to fulfill dependencies. The dilemna is
that the default installs of those packages aren't new enough to fill the
dependencies.
Is this a Knoppix install? Have you fixed the sources.list?
Change it to point to normal sources. See cafod for an example of what thos=
e
should be.

Move the old /etc/apt/sources.list out of the way and drop in the one liste=

in cafod.
After that do an 'apt-get update', then try installing stuff.
