Subject: new laptop problems
If you are referring to the skips that happen while watching DVDs then
the problem could be that you need to enable DMA. I had the same problem
with Mplayer in Knoppix on my Toshiba laptop. I'm not where I can look
up the solution right now but, if you go to the Knoppix forum and do a
search for DVD and DMA you should be able to find the solution.

Watching DVDs now works great.
