One last possibility is that you might just have got a defective MB. It's
rare, but it happens from time to time. I've been lucky in that all the MBs
I've bought from Fry's have been good, but I've only built about a dozen
computers. I know one guy who builds computers for a living, and won't buy a
MB from anyone unless they will test it for him because he's run across
several bad ones.
As a rule, I don't buy anything from ANY electronics store that has been
opened, returned, "double taped", used as a display unit, or if the original
packaging has been disturbed in any way no matter what discount they offer on
it. I've always run into trouble with them, and Fry's has a policy of
reselling returned items marked 10% off regular price. Not worth the risk,
IMHO, but at least they're honest about it.
