The other responses suggest looking at the IDE cables. This is good advice,
but if the drives aren't powering up, I'd look at the power cables too (the
four-wire flat connector). Make sure the female connectors in the plug are
small enough to connect with the male pins on the drives (wiggle the plugs
while the power is on and you'll hear if a connection gets made).
