Understood.

My thought was that checking for audio playback might give Siri some
useful information as to whether it was a hardware problem vs a software
problem. She states she has the same problem with two different distros
on different partitions. Normally the CDROM drive autodetects ok, at
least in my limited experience. The burner can be an issue but the CDR
portion should not be. So isn't it at least possible that there is
nothing wrong with the configuration of Kanotix or the other distro, it
is just a bad drive, or perhaps the drive is incorrectly jumpered?
