Your dmesg file indicates that the drive is detected on start-up, and
hdd is the assigned device name. It is trying to mount to /mnt/cdrom1,
so you could check your /mnt directory to make sure you have a
/mnt/cdrom1, but I'm sure you do. If not, you can create one. Assuming
that you do have a /mnt/cdrom1, the command for mounting, I think, would be
(as root or sudo)
mount /dev/hdd /mnt/cdrom1
The problem, though, is that the drive does not appear to be reading the
discs. If it were, after you inserted the disc and closed the drive you
would get a flashing light for a few seconds, at least.
Has this been the case since you installed the second CDROM drive? I
would check all the connections and also verify that it is correctly
jumpered, just to be sure, and if that doesn't work, I would swap it
with a functioning CD-ROM drive and see if that doesn't address the
problem. I think it will.
