Does it upgrade from its own repository or from Mandrake?

They're own or those from the distro they forked off?

Knoppix can upgrade to current debian, but I don't suggest it. Same was
possible for stormix, progeny, etc. Progeny at least provided a path for
updating to run off debian repositories. Stormix might have as well.

Updating only twice a year is probably an adavantage. Do they do security
releases as holes are found and fixed?
