Welcome to Phoenix, Jason.

When I recently made the switch from DSL back to cable, I just bought
the modem from Cox. I couldn't find anything cheaper at Fry's, at the
time...

As has been previously stated, anything that is external to the
machine running Linux should be fine; it's all just ones and zeros to
the modem...
