Just to clarify ...
I wasn't advocating any "rules" but rather just offering a suggestion
for what I thought might be a practical "convention" that might be
worth advocating and encouraging members of this list to use.
Your response (below) is very helpful and gives me some
ideas to improve the way I process PLUG messages.
I highly value the excellent information and assistance that
comes through the PLUG list (the only list to which I subscribe),
but sometimes it seems that inappropriate subject titles and
meandering topics become as much as half to two-thirds
or more of the daily PLUG content.
Not criticizing, no flames here. I was just offering a simple suggestion.
I apologized for submitting that one "OT" ... but it was just
frustrating that it seemed to result in several dozen follow-up
"OT" messages that meandered way, way far afield.
Now, in retrospect, I wish that I had just requested a private
response rather than a response through the PLUG list. That
is another "convention" that I think might be helpful to advocate.
And, thanks to your response, I can now see that I should
have used "Off Topic" rather than just "OT" in the subject line.
Now, those two words are in my filter list.
Thanks to all PLUG members for the excellent help here.
