I agree with Ted that it would be good to seperate the concepts of Free
Software and liability. PLUG is offering the installation service, but want=
s
to make it clear that PLUG, its volunteers and its sponsors don't have any
liability for bad things that might ensue. That is irrelevant to whether or
not the software is Free Software.
OTOH, we could point out that the software that PLUG is providing is Free
Software and have a little schtick on what that is and the fact that
installees don't need to worry about rentware or other commercial licensing
issues.
This isn't completely true, though, if we're talking about install Java or
if we help install the mstt core fonts or acrobat reader or the flash plugi=
n
or ...
If they provide proprietary software to be installed ( Neverwinter Nights,
Oracle, etc. ), then they are liable for maintaining whatever they need to
maitain to ensure that they're legally using it. PLUG won't knowingly help
them use it improperly, e.g. original install CDs.
