Having a 'default' doesn't mean that other things aren't available.
Reasons to install something other than the default:
1. the installee asked for something else
2. the system is old, so we want less resource intensive stuff
3. the default doesn't work on the system for another reason
4. it's gonna be something other than a workstation
5. the installee has a bunch of friends who run <blah>
6. the person helping with the install just can't get the default to work
7. the installee has a special need that the default doesn't cover
8. cheesecake has been served and something else would install faster ;-)
Seriously, though, I would like to have a default that we recommend. I woul=
d
like to be able to highly encourage others to use it. We don't, however,
want to take away choice.
If someone shows up with a 486 and wants redhat 5.2 on it, I'd like it if w=
e
could help. A wrap around jacket might be the appropriate help, but I'd lik=
e
us to help :).
