Subject: PLUG preferred newbie distro? (Was: Re: InstallFest decisions)
As far as having a single desktop I think this would be a mistake. What
happens if someone brings in a p1 166, I do nto think that either kde or gnome
would be a good choice.

*This is not meant to bash those that use other distros*
AS far as a single distro this *might* be a good idea. Many people seem to
install Mandrake or Redhat as their first distro, not because it would be the
easiest to work with later, but rather becasue it is easy to install. I know
that the first distro I tried was Mandrake and not only could I not get things
to work right, but I could not even figure out
what was going on (everything was hidden). Why I could not necessarily make
things work much better in debian at first I could figure out what was going
on better.

If I took the time to figure out how to remaster a Knoppix disk to be only
unstable (therefore much simpler software additions for newbies) would there
be any demand? Or for that matter adding Gnome, replacing openoffice german
and english edition with a english only...
