Well, my Red Hat / Fedora experiences, while not all wonderful, has been
very good. With apt, yum and SmartPM (http://smartpm.org/), updates and
getting new software is very easy.

Not to say Debian is a bad choice, just that YMMV, whatever you choose.

The original poster said he wants to run LAMP. Nearly any distro will do
that very well. Debian, SuSE, Fedora, CentOS, etc. are all good choices.
Now, if he wants a outside support for the box, he may have to choose a
little more carefully, but not much.
