I have had the occasional package not wanting to uninstall because a
file or two were missing. just touching the files the uninstall was
complaining about usually fixed it right up. A trouble shooting technic
may be to link the file to /bin/true or /bin/false to simulate the
binary being there and either working or failing. Still most likely
wont get you connected but it would at least let you know if it was
something that was really needed.
