Valid question. debian has more than 10,000 packages. That's several
boatloads of software. There's no need for an end-user and/or commercial
distro to support all of that.
Do we really need 32 tetris clones?

The debian-based distros should choose a subset of the 10k packages they
want to support and only provide those packages. The key is to cover the
desired capabilities. For instance, use xine or kaffeine rather than the
proprietary software from Real.
It's cool that one can go get the other software from debian if one wants
to, though :).
