(my opinion only)
Well Ubunto has a nicer installer, a nicer look and feel out of the box,
nicer default configuration, easier printer configuration, and rite after I
install it I can plug my flash drive into the box and Ubunto pops up and says,
hey I noticed you plugged in a flash drive, and hey there are pictures on it,
would you like me to import them into your picture manager? It takes some
effort to get Debian to do that :)
Also I have a hard time getting simply things like MP3 codexes installed on a
standerd Debian box (This is probably my own ignorance) but it was quite easy
with Ubunto..
The bottom line is I can give an Ubunto CD to my mother and she could install
and use, and would probably like it Giving her a Debian CD on the other hand
would just cause hours of tech support calls to me and while I like talking
to my family, I don't like fixing their machines
This is only my personal opinion!!
