Well, yes and no. I tried both the newer wireless USB device and my
fairly old wireless USB device. The new one (DLink DWL-G132 (remember,
it was _really_ new...first wireless device with a chipset from
Septemeber-October 2004)) just won't work, yet, in Linux. The old one
(Linksys WUSB11 v2.6) is apparently a kind of goofy enough version
that people have a rather difficult challenge to get it working.

So, I cheated. I scoured the Ubuntu forums for people installing
wireless devices and found that many had very good success with
DLink's DWL-G520 PCI card. Little did I know that, on the day I went
to buy it at Fry's Electronics, it was on sale for $10.00 off in-store
price and $25.00 off mail-in rebate. Net price was only $24.99. Cool!
:-)

I brought it home, put it in the computer, booted, checked Computer ->
System Confirguration -> Networking, then hit the add button and there
was a new interface: ath0. Really cool! I finished adding it,
unplugged the ethernet cable, and I was still on the internet.

So, I'm very happy. Ubuntu saw the new device automatically without me
having to do anything.

I'll bet Linspire wouldn't have been as graceful about it.
