Before you completely obliterate it, amaze your friends and neighbors...

You will likely need a Torx set with the very small bits to open the
various screws.

Carefully open the drive and remove the cover, then replace any circuit 
boards or plugs you removed.    Power up the drive and watch the disk 
spin and the head wriggle around... if you leave the operating system 
on, you can see what all those funny little sounds really were.


And do save the magnets. Remove them carefully. They are usually made
of Neodymium, a rare earth metal... be careful not to break the shiny
silver covering -- the exposed grainy gray-brown Neodymium itself has
not been proven safe for human contact. (Not unsafe either, but caution
advised).
