Subject: Importing MS Word Publication into Open Office
I am blocked from using OO seriously because it seems
unable to import existing MS Word documents. You have
probably already noticed that I am good at breaking
software. My goal is just to start using OO for my
word processing, but that will include hacking on
documents from the Dark Side.

Can anybody advise me what I might be doing wrong, in
trying to bring .doc files into OO? See the links
below. The PDFs show how they look in MS Word.
This is a church newsletter, which is a simple
publishing exercise. I'm sure OO can handle stuff a
*lot* more complex than this. ...

This first example has a title and image on the first
page, but OO starts right out with the text. Then OO
puts the title at the top of the second page with a
place for the image, but I'm unable to view the image.
When I export this to PDF, no graphic goes along.
I have tried various views, and the page preview.

This one has calendar squares consisting of two table cells
with an invisible line in between. OO loses the top half
of each cell:

(OO always draws so many *lines* all over the page.
Can I get rid of those?)

Thanks,

Vic
