Joe,

What happens when you type:

cd <directory in question>
ls -a

Does anything show up in that directory?

And please tell us what distro your're using.

Sounds like the directory is there for Koffice, Kwrite, etc. to store backups in case of a crash.

Always empty files? Or always empty directories? Which is it? It's not clear to me.

And are you talking about files/directories **outside** your home directory? if so, those shouldn't be tampered with.
