I believe you can still purchase or get new machines shipped with Win2K.
But what does that have to do with NT4 or Active Directory Services. In
one sense you are talking about desktops (dual boot option of Win2K/XP)
and then you are suggesting that this has something to do with Active
Directory services (which desktop doesn't).

Now you're talking server here but mixing the Office client in for
confusion. Does Exchange server 'require' Active Directory? Not in the
last version I saw but I suppose that there is some new version of
Exchange server that might but I can't think of a reason for this
requirement (Group policies perhaps?)
Probably should give Microsoft some credit for not EOL on Win98 or WinNT
4 yet. Perhaps it's just a self defense measure but there are still a
lot of NT 4 servers out there and I suspect many more Win98 desktops
too.
Exchange server either sells or doesn't sell on it's merits. The beast
that it is, a rich feature set that very few companies use to any
potential, costly for purchase, install, licensing, add-ons such as AV,
SPAM, backup, ugly datastore, etc. It is what it is, depending upon how
you look at it, beautiful feature set, warts and all.
Anyway, I read through the above message and I was confused what we are
talking about, servers or desktops...kind of like where George was going
last week. Seems as though people see Windows as both desktops and
servers and I pretty much see them as desktops.
