LOL. Aha! The cat is the culprit! I love it.

Can you get close enough to the wire you feel is the offender to read
the jacket? It may be on there what flavor it is ,i.e. RG XX/whatever.

This particular wire/coax just feeds your MODEM, right?

When you say it feels like the signal just fades away; this makes me
think heat, (or better said, change in temperature). If you cannot
discern any difference in signal quality between hot or cold outside
temps affecting the wire on the wall, then you may just have to swap out
parts and pieces until you find it. When it's not a solid trouble,
those are the ones that are tough. Ideally, you want it to fail so you
can id the culprit.

Might want to lock out the cat,
