I hadn't noticed that; thought the (II) messages meant it recognized the
chipset. But I know this version of X works with this card, because it
worked until my configuration got mysteriously hosed. (Is there any way to
force it?) Also, I tried taking my Mandrake 9 CD's and updating to a newer
version of XFree86. That was a total waste of time, because this version
required libgcc_s, which Mandrake 8 doesn't have. I couldn't install
libgcc_s from the the Mandrake 9 because it requred a newer version of libc
than I have, and I know that changing libc is prone to break a system. I
thought maybe I could find the source for libgcc_s and try to compile it, but
that proved to be a daunting task. I'm probably going to back up my current
partition and blow it away with a reinstall.
