wow, I would have thought it to be relatively easy to set up mailman.
Better keep this in mind.

mailman have a user account? Is it checking?
grep mailman_user_account /var/log/maillog

does it need a cron job to check mail? Does it have a daemon/service
attached? Does it check mail when you start/restart the daemon?
