Subject: Getting hammered by spam virus :-(
lets see,
2 e-mail boxen in cox.net (both of which don't see much traffic save for =
this=20
list and 2 other e-mail lists) and 2 boxen at hotmail (thats wher the 300=
=20
e-mails a day are coming from).

I use hotmail as my public interface (it keeps the spam out of my cox.net=
=20
accounts). However, given that recently, I have seen the "undelivered=20
messages" scam and the "MS Update" scam hit everywhere (hotmail and cox.n=
et)=20
for the last 5 days, I spend too much time here trying to make sure that =
I=20
can get my mail.

I have over 200 megs of infected e-mails itting in their own box atm (tha=
t box=20
expires messages every 24 hours) and it never seems to end. I got 37 e-ma=
ils=20
of this type within the last 40 minutes alone!

I figure within 2 weeks, my current filter sets will be irrelivant (and I=
will=20
have to create new ones)

as for hotmail, I use a linux program (called hotwayd) to access hotmail =
via=20
kmail (nice utility). it hasn't been fast enough though. I got bitch lett=
ers=20
from the MSN/Hotmail stff 3 times this week for over full mail storage.

I have done one thing though, I sent anyone I do business with a nice lit=
tle=20
form letter advising them not to sell my e-mails to third parties unless =
they=20
acquired my express permission (jn writing). this has helped a bit, but=20
still..

lastly, I am using spamcop to help in minimizing the worm problem (in the=
=20
notes section, I place this: "please notify the ISP that the user at the =
ip=20
address listed for this notice is infected with <name of worm here>. Plea=
se=20
correct the problem".). it works, even though spamcop wasn't designed to =
do=20
this. I did right the admins at spamcop about this, so far, I haven't hea=
rd=20
back from anyone there.

I'll let you guys know how it goes.
