no it doesn't ide-scsi doesn't seem to be taking over the cdrom

Yes I can. I have tried on both /dev/hdc and /dev/hda (changing /etc/lilo.conf and running lilo as needed)

works fine or not fine depending on what you expect. It does eject it
when it shouldn't and wont eject /dev/scd0 when that's what I am
expecting.

Yes I do know this, I do have the line needed in lilo.conf to take care
of this. Is there anything else that would let the ide controller steal
the drive before ide-scsi loads?
