Anyone using the linux app install features under a chromebook yet? If so,
how well do the apps work, compared to say a native linux desktop?
This is compelling, ala apple-ish that in theory you get an os that sucks
less, "just works", you get full android app suites, and run linux apps in
more of a basic compat layer, which I'm almost good with if they behave the
same (or better). This includes libreoffice, text editors, diff utils,
file replcation (unison), maybe stream+games, etc.
I like the notion of the slate coming out for human interface, albeit
pricey, and under powered at that to do what I can on my xps15 or like as a
vm server too (more ram/ssd). I find I require full virtualization,
running windoze, other appliance kvm vm's for various network vendor
appliances, etc too is almost necessary for me still. If getting a good
deal on a slate, it might be nice to try for doing basic linux gui apps if
I can apt-get install everything I need to and expect it will work for
basic user/office-y stuff.
Thanks in advance!
