Well,
It could be a variety of things:
1. dbus issues: Resolve by deleting ~/.dbus*
2. Permissions: Press alt + F2 and type gksu gedit to verify or run via
root
3. Issues with file corruption: sudo touch /forcefsck && sudo reboot
