I would love to do a GIMP class, or a Blender class (which I'm learning as fast as I can for our summer youth camp). Blender (especially the 2.57b) is an amazing piece of software. I'm seriously considering trying to create a small bare motherboard render farm for it. ;)

moin moin,

The incorrect name we use in promo is almost definitely my fault.

> I agree that we do indeed need to write a class for an "Intro to the Linux Desktop".

I'm more interested in getting classes for desktop productivitity that
could include applications such as LibreOffice, GIMP, Inkscape, Blender,
GNUcash and OpenShot going.

( Phil does have a MySQL class coming up in the fall. )

> I disagree that we should throw out the command line. While it is not necessary for the average user to know all the power of the command line, it is a disservice to our students to pretend it doesn't exist. I have amazed some windows users with what you can do at the command line in windows, and of course there is now "powershell" and other tools for windows command line. A desktop class should only have a very brief/quick intro to the command line, but I would be opposed to a class that doesn't even mention it.

I agree that a GNU/Linux desktop class should have a short intro to the
command line.
