what you could do instead (if you have a hachine with enough
capability in ram, storage, etc), install winxp in a vmware instance.

this way, you don't have to dual-boot the machine and you can then do
what you need and turn it off (the vmware instance) when done). its
what I do here.

now as to your questions, you can change those names and modify their
env variables so that the system knows where to look for them. as for
spaces, its not uncommon in the UNIX world to have spaces int he
filenames either. using a [TAB] key in console gets you what you want
in short order. unfortunately, this isn't something useful in windows.

what you are talking about though is going to require a little time
and some editing of a lot of system variables to make it work
properly.

its why the only reason I have a dedicated windows machine is for WoW
9and some other windows only MMORPG's). otherwise, I just don't worry
about it much.
