It's been 3 years since I have done anything much with Linux. Installed Fedora on my deve server and added phpMyAdmin and left everything they way it installed.
Things have changed for the better. I am especially impressed that xubuntu found my WIFI and installed the proper drivers ....
This was an exercise and a good one. I'll be exercising more this weekend....

No problem. You can install the desktop first then add the server
packages with apt/synaptic/adept.
Or install the server and add the desktop apps.
apt-get install kde
or apt-get install gnome-desktop-environment
There will be alot more downloading going on if you start with the
server. Most downloading will be done as part of the ISO if you start
with the desktop.
