thats a good start.
here's my method:
1 plug in old drive in 2nd drop on your bus.
boot from live cd (any distro)
mount your new drive under /mnt/hdx
mount your old drive under /mnt/hdy
dd if=/mnt/hdy/home/ of=/mnt/hdx/home/
you may also have to sync passwd, group and shadow files using cp (if you want
to retain same ownerships/accounts/etc)
before you unmount, make sure your /mnt/hdx/home and /mnt/hdy/home durs are
the same (you can tell immediately in top level if something went wrong)
