You only get a 7 day money back on OEM's with places like newegg and mwave.

To make the chip lie about the FSB, additional cuts are made. I can't tell the
difference between a factory laser cut and some of the 'recuts'.

The oldest chip of my 'bad three', is an XP2800+ 333FSB. It has never really
hung but it isn't even the correct core, and i noticed the difference in the
CPU flags when I built it, but I just thought wtf? After two years it is only
now starting to 'get flaky'. I've since bought a 'retail' chip for it, and
will swap it out when it is time, probably soon. I will keep the Vantec fan/hs
on it though.

I helped another friend build a box a year ago w/ an XP3200+ 400FSB. It ran
great, for about 8 months. Then the fun began. I ended up replacing
EVERYTHING. (nic, video card, motherboard, ps, hd, ram, CPU, cables)

I didn't change the case, but I replaced everything else. It was still
intermittently flaky, and gradually getting worse. Then I got the wise idea to
try cranking the FSB down and BINGO. All of the hardware is good, the CPU's
were just mis-labeled. The replacement OEM cpu that I bought only ran for a
half day or so before it got flaky. Both chips would run for days underclocked
(or properly clocked, whatever) Putting a 'retail' chip in allowed full speed
operation w/o any trouble, with any of the hardware in the pile.

I hit websites looking for ways to prove it one way or the other, visually. I
couldn't tell with the XP3200+'s, and I haven't had access to the 2800 to look
at the die. I still have the 3200's here somewhere.

There have been arrests this year related to these chips:

Just a heads up, YMMV
