The oddball refresh rates are going to make for eye strain, but
probably aren't why SuSE looks "ugly." SaX2 is the configuration tool
that SuSE uses to configure the X server. In the properties of your
monitor, you can adjust the refresh rates. As always, exercise
extreme caution when doing so.

Editing the config file directly is not recommended. SuSE wants you
to use YaST and SaX2 for everything...

I have noticed that the font sizes can get squirrelly in SuSE, with
the nVidia driver. I think what you might need to do is go into the
advanced options for your monitor, in SaX2 and set the
CheckDesktopGeometry appropriately for your monitor.

I have also noticed that SuSE seems to do some weird things with font
sizes with the nVidia driver... I hope you are able to get it working
to your liking. :)
