Shieldx you are skirting the border of being on topic in my opinion. The
issue lies in the framing of your query. You asked in your initial query
"Are there any alternatives?", that was good. Most people here are concerned
with implementation issues. I would divert this thread to a discussion of
VOIP as implemented on a Linux server. We could discuss the asterisk PBX,
for instance. Or we could discuss open source VOIP clients such as XTEN.
Linux is not always open source. For instance, we paid and licensed BRU the
tape backup utility in our office. So, we could divert the conversation to
discuss PBX implementations on Linux appliances from commercial sources.
Should we discuss NATing of VOIP? At Networld in Las Vegas last week, iLAB
participants were joyfully talking about how firewall/border router vendors
this year succeeded in doing NATed VOIP.

Frankly, I would enjoy discussing VOIP as it relates to Linux -- if anyone
thought it was on topic. Just the same, I would prefer to have an off topic
list, too.
