I just installed Firefox under Mepis on my hard disk.
It installed fine. The install opened the browser
and I was able to use it.
After I shut down the browser, I could not find
how to start it up again. No link on my desktop,
on my toolbar, in my KDE menu. I haven't done a
full-blown "find" from the root directory yet, but
I shouldn't have to.
If I install Firefox under Windows the setup offers
a checkbox list to create links in various places.
No such offer was made under Linux. Somehow I'd
expect the install to be friendlier under Linux,
but apparently that's not the case.
Q1: What am I missing?
Q2: Would it be different under some other distro?
Bonus question: Is this a cultural problem?
Is it obligatory under Linux to enforce a "no pain,
no gain" rule?
TIA,
Vic
