I believe the problem is that m$ can't mount m$ partitions read-only. Even
in 'read-only' mode they write something back to the partition.

Maybe one of our forensics experts can provide the gory details. I think I
first read about it in work from Dan Farmer and Wietse Venema that I
mentioned recently.
