Yeah, it shouldn't be minicom or kermit. I've never had much luck with
minicom, but kermit worked wonderfully for me for years back in the days
of maitaining ancient *NIX boxen.

Other than keyboard input not working minicom seems to be working fine.
Granted, that is a rather important feature... :)

I had turned off hw flow control. sw was already off. I've now tested
multiple times with each of the 4 possible combinations and it's still now
working.
