We have an A80 and it works fine.
It does not load as a drive when you plug it in via USB. It uses the "Picture
Transport Protocol" or PTP. Go to the A80 entry and other Canon camera
entries in the Linux Questions hardware list.

My wife likes to use Lphoto (from Linspire) to organize the photos, though I
had to fix some bugs in it first. Just find a user app that interfaces to
gphoto and you will be all set.
