I definitely want to add my voice in support of rsnapshot and its kin.
you get what looks like a full backup every time it runs, but it takes
only the space and time of an incremental backup.
you don't have to worry about a huge tarball, where if you lose one
byte, you lose the whole tarball.
all file attributes are presevered too.
restore is really easy, just use cp.
