Subject: OT: Motherboard and heat sync fan issue
I have not seen this before so I thought I'd ask around.

One of the testing host computers, an older 400 or 500 MHz system, was
frozen when I cam in on Monday. Finally getting around to investigating,
I found the CPU heat sync fan not running. No big deal, I though, go get
a new one.

Well, the new one did not run either. The old "dead" one runs fine on a
different motherboard (??). But it or the new one will not run on the
original motherboard. The motherboard boots and appears to work fine in
every other way, until the CPU gets too hot.

Swapping a heat sync and fan is easy. Pulling the box out of the rack and
swapping the motherboard is hard (and more expensive). Before going
though all that, I have to ask: Has anyone seen and solved such a thing
without replacing the motherboard?

Alan
