I've sent this message twice before, but still haven't had any response.
Hope someone can help me with this problem.
Still trying to figure out how to choose the right monitor settings so that
I won't destroy my old CRT monitor, but will have settings that will satisfy
the requirements of my new Sony 19" LCD monitor when I make the switch.
When I tried to hook up the new monitor, I got this error message:
Out of scan range
80.x kHz / 100 hz
The Sony manual says: "If you replaced an old monitor, reconnect the old
monitor and adjust the computer's graphics board within the following
ranges: Horizontal: 80 kHz (SDM-HS93) Vertical 48-75 Hz
In the Mandrake Control Panel, I found where to "Choose a monitor"
and saw that the one current selected for my old CRT monitor is:
"High Frequence SVGA 1024x768 at 70 Hz"
Attached is a screen-capture that shows all the available options,
but I don't see that any of the options show what I need to choose:
Sony manual says I need:
Horizontal: 28-80 kHz (SDM-HS93) -- and -- Vertical 48-75 Hz
with max Resolution: Horizontal 1280 dots -- and -- Vertical Max 1024 lines
So, I don't see why the current "High Frequence SVGA 1024x768 at 70 Hz"
doesn't work. Why would it be produce that error message:
"Out of scan range -- 80.x kHz / 100 hz"
And I don't understand which of the attached options I should choose so that
both the old CRT monitor won't be damaged but the new LCD will work. None
of the options listed say anything about any "kHz" rating.
I don't know whether to choose a Generic Monitor setting, a Generic Super
VGA setting, a Multi-Frequencey setting, or something else.
Hope someone can offer some guidance here.

The attachment that I previously tried to send included a list of about 30
generic monitor options, but since I could not send the attachment, I'm
listing a few of the options here:
Generic Monitor, 1280x1024@ 60 Hz -- (or at 74 Hz or 76 Hz)
Generic Super VGA, 1024x768 @ 87 Hz interlaced, 800x600 @ 56 Hz
High Frequence SVGA 1024x768 at 70 Hz -- (This is the one I currently have)
Multi-frequence that can do 1280x1024 at 60 Hz -- (or at 74 Hz or 76 Hz)
Non-Interlaced SVGA 1024x768 at 60 Hz, 800x600 at 72 Hz
Super VGA, 1024x768 at 87 Hz interlaced, 800x600 at 56 Hz
