Do you get these strange redirects if you type in your search at google.com
instead of the google toolbar?
I've never used a google toolbar. In Konqueror you can do a google search by
clearing your address bar by clicking the little X to the left of it, then
typing:

gg: "search words" (quotes not necessary)

What happens if you do that?
