I would guess that the "out of scan range" message indicates that the
video card is producing sync rates that the LCD monitor cannot handle. I
assume that the two boxes used to have different monitors, right? So one
was configured differently than the other even though they are the same
cards.

The key to fixing your problem is configuring X to use scan rates that
match the capabilities of this new monitor. I am not very knowledgable in
doing that mannually since the automatic configuration tools have always
worked for me on all my monitors (so far). Mandrake should have some sort
of X configuration tool or use the 'XF86Setup' script that comes in X.
Google it for more instructions since I am not much help with it.
