These types of questions are very educational for the group. It's often
enlighening to see what problems others encounter, and more importantly
the solutions.
I went to google and searched on "Linux remove mbr". The very first hit
was at M$, of all places:

I think you'll find a satisfactory answer there.
From what it says, lilo can be removed from the MBR of a drive with
"lilo -u /dev/hda" (substitute appropriate drive designation). It
doesn't say how to remove the actual MBR, and I don't know how/why to do
that.
