Topic: Linux Distributions Overview
Tonight will be a semi-structured presentation about Linux Distributions.
We hope to answer:
- What is a distribution?
- Why are there different distributions?
- Where do I find information about distributions?
- What are the "major" distributions?
-- What are their strengths?
-- What are their weaknesses?
-- What's to like?
- What are some other distros?
- Are specific distros important? Can't I just run anything on any distro?
- Which distro is right for me?
I will be doing the "presentation" and am making this up as I write this.
Being a mostly Red Hat and Fedora guy, I am counting on some of the rest
of you to provide some advocacy for your preferred distro.
We will discuss opinions and differences but NO DISTRO WARS PLEASE!
Friendly discussion and information is what we are after here. :^)
Brian, please make an internet connected box available with the projector.
That will help as we discuss and explore together.
Alan
