I haven't a clue what hardDrake is or whether a decision was purposely
made to draw a dialog box larger than could be accommodated by a 640 by
480 screen. I generally defer to the obvious wisdom of those who make
this thing happen.

When I referred to getting the big picture, I was specifically referring
to the notion that Linux and whichever package you choose to use becomes
a shared experience and the user, perhaps even unknowingly becomes part
of the community that is developing and supporting the software. When
someone identifies a problem, it's incumbent upon them to report their
perception of the problem. That not only allows the developers (or
packagers) to remedy the problem but also prevents it from happening to
others.

You don't identify yourself or your usage of Linux as part of the
community of Linux and thus feel that your efforts would be wasted. Thus
my inference about your negativity.

Every time I have contacted a proprietary software vendor about problems
with their software, I am made to feel the same way. Let me give you a
case in point...my second dad (not my real father) has a Palm and uses
Palm Desktop software on a Macintosh. He has upcoming appointment with a
doctor so he searches in the Calendar app for the name of his doctor.
The search will return only past appointments and never the future ones.
He emails Palm about this problem. They say, be patient, new version of
software coming out. New 'Palm One' software comes out...same problem.

Last week, I had a problem with wxPython-GTK2 on Fedora 2. I ended up
downloading source from www.python.org and compiling it myself. Cleared
up much of the problem but not the entire problem. I posted on
bugilla.fedora.us. Less than 12 hours later, I received 3 emails based
upon my bugzilla post. Less than 24 hours later, there was a test rpm
based upon a patch from cvs and backported, and a link to download the
test rpm. Downloaded, installed fixed. Reported back to bugzilla that it
solved my problem. Within 3 days, 'apt-get update' installed the latest
and obviously fixed version so it made it into general distribution.

So your comments about doubting anyone would want to fix a bug like
that, or having bigger fish to fry really have nothing whatsoever to do
with Linux, they only serve to foster your negativity.

As for myself, taking this too personally, perhaps that is true. I have
a difficult time with inept, incapable, uncaring people that want to be
in my face with their negativity.

I see this as an opportunity to state (once again) that there are people
who curse the darkness and people who light candles.
