Based on my experiences building a few systems for myself and family:
1) Go with AMD -- Clearly best bang for the buck. I use them exclusively and I
have never had a problem.
2) As for the Motherboards, I've had good luck with Soyo, Abit, and more
recently Shuttle for a mini-PC. I'll never buy another MSI. I had several
problems with the MSI: drivers, battery failures, etc. The MSI is a Win98
machine and it was a nightmare finding the information to fix it b/c the
included manual and website was pathetic. Even so, once I got past the
issues, the MSI has logged 4 years of faithful service to it's user for basic
computing: web, email, scanning pictures, document editing. So it's possible
that the new MSI's are great and that I'll be missing out b/c they got me mad
at them a few year's back...
Good luck,
Jeff
