Bart,

You're right, I shouldn't have acted so ignorant in my post. I was actually
referring to my box as a whole as a "piece-of-crap" mostly because I have a
winmodem. But I don't like Red Hat 8 /out-of-the-box/ and I'm going to be
trying out Mandrake 10 very soon. My friend told me that Mandrake 10 can
read and write to NTFS drives so that will help me when I have to dl update
files via my XP install that can utilize my modem. As soon as I can afford
DSL none of this will be an issue so I'm not too worried about it. I just
like to at least listen to tunes while I'm working on my programming skills.

I was surprised that a distro like RH8 wouldn't play my music and videos
right away. I don't know how I could have missed installing anything
required, as I selected "everything" when I ran the install. I want to try
out different versions of Linux anyway, though, so I'm excited to check out
Mandrake 10. And I am not completely writing off Red Hat, as I was never
able to download the updates for the older version I have. Maybe if I could
update it fully I'd like it more.

Another distro I've been told to check out is Xandros 2.0. Anybody have any
comments regarding that distro?

Thanks again for keeping such an exciting group here in PLUG. I'm studying
for my Linux+ and when I get more experience using and administering Linux I
hope to become a more active participant. All you guru's on this list
deserve a big round of applause for all the help you so generously offer to
everyone.

Have a great weekend,

Steve

I understand being frustrated, but try to remember calling a persons
favorite distro a "piece of crap" is not the best way to get them to
help.

Google (searched for "RedHat mp3") turn up this link:
