This is exactly what I was looking for 802.11b via usb for my laptop, as the previous owner (comany president) broke the PCMCIA slots.
I just went to fry's to get my gear, and had networking issues. Couldn't get the drivers for my d-link. I'll just go return my stuff, and get what works. I am using Mandrake 9.2 as well.

I have gotten a linksys pcmcia card working and a netgear USB MA111
working. On mandrake 9.2 I had to download these drivers:
http://www.linux-wlan.com/download.html
but the instructions were fairly simple and the install worked fine. I
have since switched to debian (sid) and you can just apt-get these
drivers I believe.
